How to choose a safe abortion clinic in Delhi

A practical checklist you can use on any clinic, including ours, before you agree to treatment.

Ten questions to ask

  1. Is the doctor registered? Ask for the registration number and check it on the National Medical Register.
  2. Is the doctor trained for MTP? The MTP Rules set training requirements.
  3. Is the facility approved for MTP? Ask to see the approval or certificate.
  4. Will I be examined and scanned first? A method should never be advised before this.
  5. Will you explain all options? You should hear about both methods where both are suitable.
  6. What is the full cost? Ask for an itemised estimate in writing.
  7. What if there is a complication? Ask who to call at night and which hospital is the back-up.
  8. Is there a follow-up visit? Follow-up is part of safe care.
  9. How is my privacy protected? The law restricts disclosure of your details.
  10. Am I free to take time? A good clinic welcomes questions and a second opinion.

Red flags

  • Pills offered by phone, WhatsApp or counter without a scan.
  • A fixed price or a guarantee before any examination.
  • Pressure to decide today, or fear used to push a method.
  • No doctor's name, registration or clinic address on display.

Government hospitals are an option

Government hospitals provide MTP, usually at low or no cost. Compare waiting time and comfort before choosing. See what affects abortion cost.
