First 24 to 48 hours
Cramping and bleeding are at their most noticeable. Rest, keep warm and take only the pain relief your doctor advised. Eat lightly if you feel nauseated.
Days 3 to 7
Bleeding should lessen. Many people go back to work or study. Continue avoiding vaginal insertion, including intercourse, until you are told it is safe.
Weeks 2 to 6
Spotting can continue for up to two weeks. Your next period usually returns within four to six weeks. Fertility returns quickly, so start contraception promptly. Mood changes may appear as hormones settle.
